GLOBAL COLLABORATIONS IN ACTION
NCVPS HOSTS PUERTO RICO EDUCATION TEAM
Three members of the Puerto Rican Department of Education visited with a team
from the North Carolina Virtual Public School and Learn and Earn Online (NCVPS/LEO)
on May 14. Magaly Martinez, Eva Lopez Diaz and Manual Avila, who are currently
working with the online courses in Puerto Rico came to learn more about best
practices and procedures that NCVPS/LEO is implementing throughout the state.
The NCVPS/LEO team spent the day discussing the strategic planning process,
funding models and the regional deployment and support of the program throughout
the state. In addition, staff from NCVPS/LEO also gained insight into Puerto
Rico’s program from a presentation by Eva Lopez Diaz, a director for the
online course program in Puerto Rico. Both groups exchanged collaboration
ideas in order to create a global partnership for online learning. Executive
Director, Dr. Bryan Setser comments, "Anytime we can work with a global partner, we learn more about ourselves and
the possibilities for our organization. I was particularly impressed by Puerto
Rico's work with "community" as they involve students and parents in processes, recognition ceremonies, and
contests to determine what e-learning will look like in the future."
