The NCVPS Super Student Award is for students who have gone above and beyond the course requirements and as a result have enriched the content, class dynamic, their own learning, their classmates’ learning, and even their teacher’s learning.
“I’ve taken 2 classes with NCVPS, Math 2 and Spanish 1, and I’m currently taking Spanish 2 this semester. Both of my Spanish classes have been on Canvas, and I love it! The Getting Started Unit made it really easy to learn my way around, and once I got the hang of it, I never had to look back. Everything you need is right there on the dashboard and home page. Taking online courses has allowed me to learn at my own pace, and I love how flexible it is. It really gives you a chance to learn, and when you don’t understand something you can always go back whenever you need to because everything is right there at your fingertips! Your teachers are also there to help you, and they give you tips and assistance when you just can’t get it on your own.” –Cyvanah B.
“Cyvanah is an extremely organized, hard-working young woman. She had all her work turned in on time throughout the course; communicated with me regularly; produced work that just wowed and amazed me on a regular basis. She is very creative and she just has a natural knack for learning Spanish. Her determination and diligence were always apparent in all that she did. She has asked to be a Peer Tutor or a Virtual Buddy. She is high energy and just lights up her world from what I was able to be a part of during this semester.” –Nancy Lewis, NCVPS Spanish Instructor
Advice for Online Students
My advice to other online students is to take advantage of your class! You have everything you need right there in front of you, and you can always find help when you need it by using things such as the NCVPS Peer Tutor Center. It’s also VERY important to keep in touch with your teacher. Knowing how and when to contact your teacher is very important because you never know when something might go wrong or when you need help understanding something about the class.
I usually spend most of my time on social media such as Instagram and Snapchat, but I also spend time on websites such as Memrise, which is what I use to practice my Spanish.
Gadgets and Things
I have many favorite gadgets, my phone being my favorite. Then I have my iPad, Xbox, laptop, and more! I use most of these things almost every day, for school work and for fun!
The Future Cyvanah
In the future, I plan to go to college to become an orthopedic surgeon. I’ve wanted to become a doctor or surgeon for as long as I can remember, and when I got my spinal fusion surgery when I was 15 my doctor inspired my decision on exactly what type I wanted to be. He is a great doctor, and recently told me that I could come shadow him in the O.R. whenever I’m ready! I’ve already watched some surgeries while volunteering at the hospital in my town, (actually in the room with the surgeon and his team while they’re doing it) and I can’t wait to see more. I want to be just like him. I also want to study abroad in Costa Rica in college. While learning about it in Spanish 1, I fell in love! I can’t wait to get the chance to experience it for myself!
I’ve been teaching myself Spanish ever since middle school. One day, I had just randomly decided I wanted to learn it! Lately I have been practicing almost everyday, and I even have a friend from Mexico who helps me with my Spanish, and I help him with English in return! He taught himself English and is now fluent in it. I can now have full-blown conversations in Spanish!
I prefer reading printed books over ebooks. I love to read, and I’m often getting lost in a good book. Like almost everything else, I can’t choose a favorite because I have many!
I don’t have a favorite song because I love so many! Some of my favorite artists are Rihanna, Tory Lanez, Alessia Cara, Drake, Beyonce, and more.
I have many favorite TV shows, but my favorite movie of all time is Interstellar.
My mom was in the military, and she has been all around the world! She’s been in Germany, Paris, and more. I have lived many places, but I’ve been in North Carolina ever since 3rd grade. Most of my family lives in California, and I go there often. I love it there, and have decided that that’s where I want to go to college!
This semester, I plan to succeed in my Spanish 2 class and finish with an A+ just like I did in Spanish 1. This class will bring me one step closer to my goal of becoming fluent in another language. Since I am also an NCVPS Peer Tutor, I plan on helping my fellow online classmates as much as I can. I love helping and motivating other students to succeed in their classes!
