Why do we decide to become teachers? Why do we decide TO STAY in the profession?
For most of us, I bet you can see yourself all throughout Naphtali Hoff’s article “People Want to See Meaning in Their Work.”
Hoff could be describing teachers!
*It’s not about the money.
*Job satisfaction comes from meaning and purpose.
*We seek affirmation, wanting to know that our work makes a difference.
Hoff writes, “A story is told by John C. Maxwell of a man who came across three bricklayers busy at work. The man asked the first bricklayer what he was doing. ‘I’m laying bricks,’ the worker replied. He then asked the second bricklayer the same question. ‘I’m putting up a wall,’ he said. The passerby then asked the question one more time, this time to the third bricklayer. The response: ‘I’m building a cathedral.’
We see you as master builders for your NCVPS students. What makes our NCVPS teachers effective is the teaching you do because you have found meaning and purpose in what you do – you know you are the master builder that is not just laying bricks or building a wall. You are the master builder of great and important structures, your students.
You work makes a difference. Thank you for the purposeful, meaningful building you do every day!
