The NCVPS Super Student Award is for students who have gone above and beyond the course requirements and as a result have enriched the content, class dynamic, their own learning, their classmates’ learning, and even their teacher’s learning.
“I have a lot of interests, so I haven’t decided what my future career might be. I would like to either be out of college and in a good job, or, since I’ve been taking dance since I was five years old, have skipped college and be a member of a ballet company.” –Ruiko
“Ruiko is an excellent, motivated student. She always went above and beyond the required work; for example, she did a prezi on one of her projects rather than a simple power point or picture essay. She participated in Culture Café with me and discussed her Japanese roots. The student turned in every extra credit opportunity that was available, At one point her grade was 105. She is truly one of the most talented, intelligent and hard-working students that I have ever had and also one of the most humble!” –Mary Hansbrough, NCVPS French Instructor
I have taken French 1 and 2 through NCVPS. I had to take the classes online because they were not offered at my school. I love the flexibility of the course because it fits in perfectly with my busy schedule!
Advice to Online Students
Work a little each day. Do one or two assignments a day and you’ll never have to turn in anything late! And take advantage of your resources. If you have questions, ask your teachers because they’ll be happy to answer them, and use the Peer Tutoring Center, too!
I’ve been spending quite a lot of time on Tumblr recently. I’m obsessed with history (particularly English history), so I follow a lot of historical blogs and I’ve learned so much. I also like YouTube because I can watch things I can’t watch on my TV.
Gadgets and Things
I really like my laptop (it’s a MacBook Pro, but not the most recent kind). I like a bigger screen to see things, and I like typing on a keyboard rather than texting on a screen. I also can get things done quicker.
I’m a ninth grader, so first I wanted to survive my first year of high school! Then I wanted to be able to manage my time a little better, and learn even more things!
I really like baseball! My favorite team is the Cincinnati Reds.
That’s a tough one . . . but I love the Anne of Green Gables series by L.M. Montgomery, each and every one of the books! I definitely prefer printed books. I feel very weird reading books electronically, and I don’t feel like I’m getting the true experience.
I’m not quite up to date with current music, as I prefer classical music and Broadway songs. But my favorite classical composer would be Alexander Glazunov.
Singin’ in the Rain! I have so many good memories of watching it with my family.
I enjoy reading, crocheting, and watching TV with my family in my spare time.
