The NCVPS Super Student Award is for students who have gone above and beyond the course requirements and as a result have enriched the content, class dynamic, their own learning, their classmates’ learning, and even their teacher’s learning.
“I plan to attend NCSU this upcoming school year as a Human Biology major. Over the summer, I hope to get a part-time job.” –Julia W.
“Julia is a senior that transferred to North Carolina this year. She has amazed me with her performance in the course. She is an excellent writer and completely answers each and every question with full sentences and grammatically correct content (which is very unusual). In addition, she goes beyond with almost every assignment and checks out the feedback that I send with her assignments. She has made multiple comments on how much she has enjoyed the links and how they have helped her better understand the content. In addition, she responds to each and every request that I have made throughout the semester. She is an exciting, intelligent young woman and is ready to take on the world of science as she enters her freshman year at NC State.” –Susan Reese, NCVPS Earth and Environmental Science Teacher
Advice for Online Students
I would advise other students to not procrastinate because it is really easy to forget assignments and wait to the last minute. Create a plan to work an hour and a half every other day and you should be fine.
I really enjoy BuzzFeed. I love the short and current videos that are funny and informative. I even watch all of their YouTube channels before I go to sleep each night. Other than that, I enjoy Instagram and Netflix!
Gadgets and Things
I never owned a Wii, but I sure love playing games at my friend’s houses on their Wii’s. It allowed me to have fun and challenge them to a battle in Mario Kart. On a more serious note, I really fell in love with 2-in-1 convertible tablets with keyboards. They’re so lightweight and portable. I love working on my sister’s tablet for homework, Netflix, and other things. I for sure will get one for college!
I really wanted to keep up my streak of all As during my high school career. I ended up doing that (even when battling senioritis) and ended up being the only student from my High school that had all As all 4 years in high school in every course.
I really enjoy architecture and real estate. I hope to have a backup career in realty. In my free time, I design floor plans for imaginary homes and try to design their insides.
When I was in 4th grade, I read The Invention of Hugo Cabret which eight years later remains my favorite book. It was made into a movie, which I really enjoyed. This book is usual because it is mainly text but inside it has an entire gallery of paintings and filmstrips mentioned in the book. Overall, I prefer real books as opposed to e-books because I love the fact that it is a physical object and I don’t have to charge it to use it.
I don’t have a particularly favorite musician. I enjoy any music that comes on the radio.
I really enjoyed the ABC series Revenge. it is extremely compelling and always seems to surprise me. It has the perfect blend of drama and politics.
I enjoy traveling, especially to South America. I love the outdoors and would pick a hiking trail and lay on my hammock among the trees rather than a nail day. I don’t have any pets, so I really spoil my friend’s animals. I enjoy playing Frisbee and volleyball and love going out to Pelicans Snoballs.
“This year was the first time I took any online class. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I honestly thought it would result in a lot of miscommunication and confusion. Much to my surprise, NCVPS provided me with a positive experience that enabled me to work at my own pace, but also made communication with my teacher easy, and other students as well. I loved that my teachers always supplied my assignments with feedback and encouragement. I got a chance to learn about the environment, something I am passionate about and it really enriched my outlook on the situation. Overall, I am very pleased the assignments were rather engaging and creative.” –Julia W.
