Summer Session Guide for Schools Banner

Program Details

Summer school with NCVPS is a fast-paced program. An entire 18-week course is taught in just 8 weeks. Students will spend 2-4 hours each day, Monday through Friday, working on their courses, and just like at a traditional school, there is often work over the weekend, too. Students must have daily access to the internet for the duration of summer school. There are no exceptions made for students who attend camps or go on vacations where they do not have access to the internet.

Due to the workload, we recommend that students only take one NCVPS course over the summer, especially if the student has not had an online course before. Students are much more successful in our summer program if they only take one course.

Students can work on our courses any time during the day or night, 24/7. They just need to pay close attention to the due dates for the assignments, tests, and quizzes. Students can also work from any location as long as they have access to their classes for 2-4 hours a day.

Summer Budget

Allotments from Summer 2019 come from your NEW allotment totals for the 2019-2020 Academic Year.

Summer Contact Information

Districts and schools need to identify their summer contact information. Please complete our Summer Contact Information Form.

NCVPS needs the contact information for each school that registers students for Summer 19 classes. Students will need to know who the contact is, as well. Students can drop through our 10th day of class, and they need to know who to contact at the school or at the district level so that they can be dropped. Districts may elect to have just one contact for the entire district over the summer.

Presently, you may not have any students enrolled in NCVPS summer courses, but if your school does enroll students in the coming weeks for Summer 2019, we will need this information.

If districts have their school-level ELA contact information in an Excel document, they can copy and paste that into the contact box on the link above.

Catalog Updates for 2019 - 2020

NCVPS has released its Course Catalog for the 2019-2020 school year. We have a few notes to add to the release.

New Offerings

We have a number of new courses offerings in our 2019-2020 catalog:

  • English II Co-Teaching
  • Biology Co-Teaching
  • AP World History 1200 - Modern Times
  • Python Programming I

Returning to the Course Catalog

  • Arabic I

Spring Block AP Courses

We've added five AP courses to the spring block Early Start calendar:

  • AP Statistics
  • AP Calculus AB
  • AP Environmental Science
  • AP European History
  • AP Psychology

These courses will begin on January 6, 2020, and all schools can enroll students into these Early Start AP courses. These courses also have yearlong offerings.

Course Updates

Accounting 1 and Accounting 1 Honors - Both courses will be off the catalog for Fall 2019 in order to revise for the new course blueprint. The current course will run during Summer 2019, and the new version will run Spring 2020. There are no course code changes.

AP Mandarin - This course will remain off the catalog until revisions are complete. We are updating the courses for standards alignment and design.

AP Music - This course will remain off the catalog until revisions are complete. We are updating the courses for standards alignment and design.

AP U.S. History - This course will remain off the catalog until revisions are complete. We are updating the courses for standards alignment and design.

AP World History - The College Board has divided AP World History into two courses, Ancient and Modern Day. NCVPS will offer the Modern Day course, which has a new course code. We will look at developing the Ancients course in the future.

Arabic I - Arabic I is  now back in the catalog. Arabic I will have limited enrollment in the fall of 2019.

Arabic II - Arabic II will remain off the catalog until further progress can be made. We will definitely have Arabic II ready by Fall 2020. If you have seniors enrolled in the Arabic I course, they wouldn't be able to get that second credit by graduation. We can't guarantee that at this time.

Computer Programming I and Computer Programming I Honors - Both courses will remain in our course catalog. DPI will continue to support the standards through 2020.

Computer Programming 1 Chrome Update - Computer Programming 1 cannot be taken with a Chromebook. The software for Visual Basic requires a Windows-based environment and Chromebooks do not officially support Windows. If you are looking for a programming course for next year that can be taken on a Chromebook, we recommend SAS Programming or our new Python Course.

French III and IV now have yearlong options. Updated 4/12/19.

Music Courses - This course will remain off the catalog until revisions are complete. We are updating the courses for standards alignment and design.

Python Programming I - Enrollment is now open for Python Programming I; however, seating is limited. We will expand the course capacity each semester.

SAT Prep and ACT Prep - Summer 2019 will be the last time we offer these courses. We are working on a way to include both courses in an open commons that schools can use them as resources.

Spanish III and IV now have yearlong options. Updated 4/12/19.

Workforce Ready now has summer option. Updated 4/12/19.
