We wanted to provide an update on Canvas LMS access and revised semester-end dates resulting from the recent disruption in course access.Â
Access to NCVPS Canvas will return to normal operations at 4 p.m. today, Monday, May 11, 2026.
We apologize for the impact this untimely security incident has had on students, teachers, schools, and families.
Based on the interim assessment conducted by CrowdStrike, the third-party cybersecurity firm engaged by Instructure in response to the incident, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) has been informed by Instructure that the Canvas environment throughout the nation and here in North Carolina has no ongoing signs of compromise. As a result, NCDPI will return Canvas services to normal operations at 4 p.m. today.
NCVPS is adjusting select end-of-semester dates to provide additional flexibility for students, teachers, and schools. Our goal is to help ensure students have adequate time to complete coursework while also maintaining timely reporting to enrolling schools.
Early Start Spring/Yearlong (ES S/YL) Semester End Date Changes
- Classes ended as scheduled on May 5
- The extension window deadline will move from May 12 to May 13
- Final grades will continue to be published to schools on May 15
Standard Start Spring/Yearlong (SS S/YL) Semester End Date Changes
- Classes will now end on May 15 instead of May 12
- The extension window deadline will move from May 19 to May 20. (This will shorten the extension window to 3 days, not 5.)
- Final grades will continue to be published to schools on May 22
We appreciate the patience, flexibility, and partnership of our students, families, teachers, and school partners as we work together to address the impact of this incident. We will continue to communicate as we receive more information.Â
