Esther’s Story
At first, I was like many other students, just trying to get through class with good grades. The only problem was, everyone else was doing the exact same thing, so I wouldn’t be special in any way. Being “ordinary” was never enough, so I decided to do more. In my years in middle school, I enrolled in many different clubs, trying to find one that matched me. A lot of myself has been influenced by others around me, whether it be friends, teachers, or acquaintances. Other extracurricular activities have also helped define me as a person.
Online Experience
In third grade, I had taken the SSA math test to skip one grade of math, and passed. For 8th grade, since my school does not provide any 9th grade courses, I took an NCVPS class. The only NCVPS class I have taken so far is for NC Math 2
The best part of online classes is being able to complete lessons at home, making more time for other activities.
I would tell other online students to get ahead in the first few weeks, while the material is similar enough to Math 1 so that you can benefit from the extra time afterwards. I cannot stress how much easier everything is without having to worry about this class.
Life Outside of School
I am in my school’s Science Olympiad team, and we are preparing for Regionals. I also play soccer, like crocheting, and I read a lot, too. I play the clarinet, and like to make art.
My favorite singer/songwriter is Taylor Swift, mainly because she has written a variety of songs, making sure that I never get bored of any song.
Goals & Future Plans
My goal this semester is to get many achievements. This would apply for everything, including soccer, crochet vendors, Science Olympiad, and other academic activities.
I want to graduate from a good college, and be able to specialize in one particular field, making me more unique.
Personal Notes & Fun Facts
- My family is from China, and we try to visit every year. Also, I travel to other states a lot due to soccer tournaments.
- I have a pet bunny named Fluff.
- My favorite snack is either Cheetos or Sour Patch Kids.
