
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Critical Language Conversation Coaches facilitate language practice sessions for small groups of students enrolled in critical language courses. Coaches engage students in real-time conversation exercises via virtual classrooms, providing valuable feedback to enhance language proficiency. This remote position requires flexibility in scheduling to accommodate student needs and a consistent online presence during assigned coaching sessions.
NCVPS critical languages have been identified as: Arabic, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, and Russian.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct two 45-minute virtual coaching sessions per week to assist students in practicing critical language skills.
- Provide real-time feedback and guidance to students during practice exercises.
- Ensure consistent online presence for all assigned coaching sessions unless prevented by unforeseen circumstances or illness.
- Maintain own computer, headset or microphone, and reliable high-speed internet connection for remote coaching.
- Collaborate with students and instructors to enhance language learning experiences.
- Preference is given to candidates with teaching experience, particularly in online environments.
- New coaches are required to attend training sessions and participate in periodic performance evaluations.
- Coaches must meet NCVPS professional learning requirements to continue coaching.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Eligibility to work in the USA.
- Personal computer with webcam, microphone, and headset.
- Flexible work schedule to accommodate coaching sessions between 8 AM – 9 PM EST Monday-Thursday.
- This position requires a score of at least Advanced Low on the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) examination (OR professional working proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Russian or Japanese). Applicants must include official documentation of the exam completion certificate/score (if applicable) with the application in order to be considered. - Teaching experience preferred, especially in online settings.
- Teaching license (preferred, but not required).
- Ability to host in Zoom to provide online instruction.
SPECIAL NOTE: This part-time remote position is based on scheduled availability and student pairing, and is conducted entirely online. Each student is assigned both a teacher and a coach for the duration of the course. Coaches work with small groups of students twice a week for 45-minute sessions.
