ELA of the Year, Victoria Fornville
2025 E-Learning Advisor of the Year 

– Victoria Fornville

Victoria Fornville, ELA of the Year,is a Chapel Hill native and graduate of Chapel Hill High School, Class of 2020. In May 2024, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Urban Youth & Communities from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She returned to her alma mater in August 2024 to serve as the Online Learning Facilitator, where she brings a strong commitment to student success.

Victoria is passionate about supporting adolescents and advocating for equity in education. Her nominator shared that she responds quickly after progress reports, offering supportive encouragement and looping in all stakeholders to help students who are falling behind. She follows up to ensure improvement happens, showing students that they’re not alone in the process. In addition to her work in virtual learning, Victoria also serves as the JV Cheerleading Coach, advisor for the Black and Brown Student Union, and works with the Youth Leadership Institute.

Victoria was celebrated as a Hometown Hero by her local media, including Chapelboro.com and 97.9 The Hill WCHL radio following an OAS ELA of the year press release.

NCVPS E-Learning Advisor of the Year Program

ELAs (E-Learning Advisors) play a crucial role at North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) in providing personalized support and guidance to students enrolled in online courses. Along with administrative duties related to enrollments, grades, and student contact information, ELAs have the responsibility to ensure that students have enthusiasm for virtual learning as well as the tools and support necessary to achieve their learning goals in a virtual environment.

The E-Learning Advisor (ELA) award is to recognize an ELA whose innovative practices serve as a model for other schools or districts. Their innovation results in improving the overall effectiveness of online learning and contributes to the success of students taking NCVPS courses. This identified success has led to opportunities for students and improved student achievement.

Role:

• Act as liaison between students and NCVPS instructors.
• Assist NCVPS instructors in contacting students.
• Drop students on or before the tenth day of class if the student is not going to take the course.
• Inform NCVPS if students withdraw from their school or if they transfer to another school.
• Administer EOC, CTE, AP, and NCFE exams.
• Use NCVPS school code on AP Exams (in addition to their school code).
• Share progress reports with students throughout the semester.
• Record final grades.

E-Learning Advisor of the Year Expectations:

• Demonstrates a high-level of commitment to students and ability to bridge the gap between the face-to-face environment and NCVPS.
• Consistently makes sound judgments that are pertinent to student success.
• Clearly understands NCVPS guidelines/processes and consistently meets deadlines.
• Regularly communicates with NCVPS teachers, NCVPS staff, parents, and various stakeholders to ensure student success.
• Goes above and beyond to connect students with their virtual learning.
• Initiates contact with NCVPS.
• Provides helpful feedback for improvement to NCVPS.
• Increases student participation in NCVPS courses over time.
