“One pleasant surprise I’ve had is how helpful and empathetic my teacher has been! If I’ve had any trouble, questions, or concerns about any classwork, my teacher is always quick to respond and consider what I have to say!” – Abbigail B.
“Abbigail is a model student. She submits all of her assignments on time, shows her work, and does a thorough job of sharing her thinking with me on her work. She has been successful as a result of her work ethic and determination to learn as much as possible this semester.” – NCVPS Honors Chemistry Instructor, Marci Harvey
Abbigail’s Story
As a student, I always look for something in my learning that will challenge me. When it comes to academics, I am very ambitious and I like to stay on top of my work. As an individual, I’m a strong leader, compassionate, and very determined. In my future, I want to make a difference, whether it be in people’s lives or in the world in general. I feel that my family and life experiences have shaped me into the person I am today. I am someone who takes a lot of pride in being a leader, and values personal growth and learning.
Online Experience
I took my first NCVPS class the first semester of my senior year because I needed to take Chemistry before graduation, and before I took a college level Anatomy & Physiology class. My high school only offers Chemistry in the spring semester, so NCVPS was the perfect choice for me! So far, I have only taken Honors Chemistry.
I feel that taking an online course has made me more self-motivated and independent. It has certainly taught me how to manage my time better and stay organized.
My advice to other online students is to stay disciplined, check your classes daily, and to not be afraid to reach out for help! Communication is key when it comes to online learning!
Life Outside of School
In my free time, I work at a local coffee shop as a barista! I really love my job, it has taught me a lot about responsibility, independence, and teamwork! When I am not working, I enjoy listening to music (my favorites being Fleetwood Mac and Taylor Swift), reading, and spending time with my family and friends.
My favorite show is Gilmore Girls! I have rewatched it more times than I can count, and it’s really just a comfort show for me. I love cozy, small-town vibes, the realistic relationships between the characters, and being able to see how everyone grows and changes throughout the seasons.
I play golf, and I’m on my school’s team, even though I’m not all too good at it!
Goals & Future Plans
One of my goals for this semester was to stay consistent with my schoolwork while still balancing college applications and my personal life. To be able to work toward this goal, I’ve been planning out my weeks and setting aside time to do certain things!
In the future, I plan to study psychology in college. My dream is to become a clinical psychologist who is able to help people work through their struggles. To reach this goal, I’m taking psychology courses through dual-enrollment at my local community college!
Personal Notes & Fun Facts
My favorite snack is apples with melted peanut butter!
I could not live without music! It helps me focus, inspires me, and honestly keeps me sane.
Being able to spend time with the people I’m close with is very important to me, especially around the holidays. I try to live with purpose and value every moment, and always look for the good in people!
