Meet Campbell
“I’m one of those odd people; I like everything about high school. I like being surrounded by my friends, experiencing different teachers, and taking challenging classes. So, when my doctor recommended that I transition to classes that were solely online, I was upset. I was sure that nothing could replace the “high school experience” and I feared that the online classes would fail to meet my expectations in terms of being interesting and challenging. I was wrong. Although I began taking NCVPS classes for health reasons, I continue to take them because of the excellent teachers and course work.” –Campbell L.

Campbell’s NCVPS Experience
I have taken Civics, AP Environmental Science, and Chemistry. Taking online classes allowed me the flexibility that I needed in order to make my health a priority. While the NCVPS deadlines are very real and it takes a great deal of discipline to get the work done, I love that I can set my own schedule.
My teachers at NCVPS are simply outstanding. Not only are the courses interesting and well-taught, but my teachers have also been readily available and responsive throughout the semester. I feel that they know me as both a student and a person—even though we have never seen each other in person. And while I miss my friends, I have enjoyed being “pen pals” with my classmates and I’ve come to enjoy reading their comments that are posted in responsive lessons.
Campbell’s Online Learning Advice
This experience has made me much more open to the idea of virtual learning. When the only means of communication is the written word, one becomes much more thoughtful and careful. I believe this can lead to a deeper understanding of both the subject matter being taught and the different ideas that are being expressed by peers. I have a newfound appreciation (and love) for virtual learning. If you are disciplined and you enjoy the experience of “going to work” on your own time and at your own pace, then NCVPS will allow you to interact with excellent teachers who provide outstanding coursework.
Campbell’s Semester Goals
This is my senior year, and I am in the process of applying to colleges and various scholarships. I love that the ability to “self-pace” my classes has given me the opportunity to also devote time to my applications. Also, I am participating in a clinical trial that is designed to (hopefully) remedy my medical condition. My NCVPS teachers were understanding and accommodating—I couldn’t have made it through the clinical trial without their support!
Tidbits on Campbell
My favorite book is When Breath Becomes Air. It is about a philosopher/medical doctor who is diagnosed with a terminal illness.
For Fun
I am addicted to certain television shows: I spend my time seeing what’s new on Netflix and Amazon.
