Meet Christopher A.
“I go to an Early College, so to lessen the amount of high school classes I have to take and maximize my college classes, I decided to take an NCVirtual Class. I want to get a head start on my education and career to make the most I can out of my life.” – Christopher A.
“Christopher stays in communication about the coursework, and his questions reflect an intrinsic interest in understanding the content as well as improving his own skills. He recognizes the value of his education beyond the school requisites and models this value in the work he submits as well as his thorough peer feedback in discussion boards.” – Grace Jackson, NCVirtual English Instructor
Experience with NCVirtual
I have taken the English 3 NCVirtual class. If given the opportunity, I will take more in the future. By taking this class, I have opened up the opportunity to take another college class. If I schedule my classes correctly, I can now take more classes overall than I would have been able to previously. My High School education will now take less time, and I can focus more on my college courses.
One pleasant surprise I did experience through NCVirtual was the ability to work ahead in my course. From time to time, I would have nothing else to complete, so I could get ahead in my class and make the work easier on myself in the future. I had plans during my online course, and because I worked ahead in my class I was able to enjoy my summer while still turning in my assignments on time.
My advice to other students would be to communicate with your teachers and make an effort to submit high-quality work. The teachers are very willing to help, answer quickly to questions, and want to see each of their students pass. The course always passes by very quickly, so it is important to complete work at a high quality as efficiently as possible. As long as everyone accepts criticism well, makes an effort to learn, makes an effort to improve, and communicates with their teacher, each student should be fine.
Life Outside of School
In my free time, I like to read, learn about different topics through YouTube, play video games, hang out with friends, and participate in my cultural dance group. I try to do activities that have some sort of benefit where I can improve myself, like reading, but other times I just want to do something that I can do it without thinking, such as video games.
One of my favorite authors is Rick Riordan. I was always interested in mythology but he was the person who fueled it the most through his books. There are other authors I enjoy such as: Lisa McMann, Gordon Korman, Jude Watson, Marie Lu, J. K. Rowling, and many more. I prefer fiction because I can visualize every scene in a book, and it fuels my imagination, that’s what makes reading so much fun! Each of these writers – and hopefully many more in the future – have been able to draw me into their books through the imagery they use and the topics they write about.
Fun Facts
I’m Japanese. I’ve been to Okinawa a few times, and I am part of a traditional Okinawan Dance group. Though my Japanese is limited, I plan on gradually learning more about the language and culture through friends and family, though language learning websites will be utilized as well. I am also very indecisive, which makes a lot of these questions difficult to answer.
My favorite type of snack is usually chocolate. I enjoy how the smoothness of the chocolate flows all over my mouth, and I can feel the flavor spread. I also enjoy savory snacks, but overall, you can’t go wrong with chocolate.
I believe I could not live without my computer. There’s a lot I can do from my computer like complete assignments, do research, read books (though I prefer physical books), communicate with friends, and watch movies, TV shows, or YouTube. Though I COULD live without my computer, I think it would be enjoyable to keep my computer. Any other one item in my life, I could see not being as important enough to not live without. A SINGLE book to read would not be enough for me. My computer is the single most versatile item that I can think of in my life.
Current & Future Goals
A goal I had this semester was to maintain a 90 or higher in my NCVirtual class which seems like it will happen. I only have two more assignments to complete, and I have a 98% average, so I will likely achieve this goal. To work towards this goal, I was constantly working and improving my work. If I had always turned in my first product I would not be at a 98%, I had to revise my work and make it better. This ensured that my work was at least a step-up from my original draft.
My future plans are to have at least two degrees or one advanced degree in a subject. I want to have some plan for a secure career or have executed that plan already. I want to have met someone who shares some interests with me. I want to begin to start on a path of enjoyment and fulfillment with my life. I want to be successful, happy, and not overworked.
I am very driven. I always aspire to be the best, and I hold myself to a certain standard when completing my work. I believe this is why I have been quasi-successful in school, but it is important to be motivated. Stay motivated in learning or receiving good grades. I focus on both, and when I feel like I might not be as receptive in school I remember that I should learn and get good grades.
Final Note
I have no idea where I am going. I see all of my peers create plans for their life, lay out the aspirations that they’ve had their whole life and work towards achieving them, but I have no idea what I want to do. I know I have an interest in science, but I’m not sure what job I would enjoy. I want to have a well-paying job, but also the freedom to explore the world and to enjoy life. I know that those are a rare combo, so I can only hope that I figure out my plan along the way and get to look back on life with a sense of pride and fulfillment that I was able to do everything I wanted without a single regret.
