Super Student Eliza WAs a homeschool student, I have taken many online classes. However, I appreciate how this program has allowed me to have more interaction with an instructor and peers. Online learning has benefited my educational experience in many ways, such as the flexibility, the large course selection, and more extensive content coverage.” – Eliza W.

“Eliza is a super hard worker.  She will reach out and ask for clarification in order to better understand her work and the material we are learning.  She continually strives to better her comprehension of Spanish by reattempting speaking and writing based on the feedback she receives as well.  She reads the announcements and stays in contact.” – Fanella Tague, NCVPS Spanish 2 Instructor

Eliza’s Story

Hi, my name is Eliza Waters, and I am a Junior in high school. I’m very involved in extracurricular activities out of town, so the traveling and schedule flexibility that is required led me to being homeschooled beginning in 6th grade. I strive for excellence in everything I do, and I value being thorough and developing a deep comprehension in all of my academic endeavors.

Online Experience

This is my first year as an NCVPS student. I’m enrolled in the Spanish II class. I chose to explore NCVPS because I felt with a foreign language it was important to have conversational opportunities with a teacher and peers.

I would encourage other students to take personal responsibility. Be prepared to have a strong work ethic, stay motivated, and manage your academic and extracurricular activities.

Life Outside of School

An interesting fact about myself is that I am the organist and pianist at my church. I especially enjoy playing the organ and having to use both my hands and feet as I play the music. I’m also a competitive dancer in the styles of ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, hip-hop, and pointe. In addition, I am a musical theatre student and teacher’s assistant. I recently had an incredible experience performing in North Carolina Theatre Conservatory’s production of Heathers. Finally, I am an active member and participant in my church’s youth group.

Two of my favorite book series are Anne of Green Gables and Harry Potter. My favorite living musician is Michael Bublé. My favorite sweet snack is cookies and cream ice cream, and one thing that I could not live without is whole milk.

Future Goals and Plans

One of my goals this semester was to diversify my homeschool experience. To accomplish this, I am taking this course at NCVPS and an AP US History course through another online program. Also, I am a dual enrollment student at my local community college.

My future plans are to attend a university and further my studies, particularly in the subject areas of music and dance.

Personal Notes

I have three older brothers and am the youngest child in my family. I adore my three pets: a black lab (Mae Mobley) and two cats (Bonnie and Bubba).
