“I took an NCVPS class because when I figured out that it would benefit me in the future, I was thrilled. I also decided to take the class because my Aunt Jennie speaks Spanish and is teaching my cousin how to speak the language so I thought to myself that I should learn it now that my family speaks Spanish. Another reason I took it is because in North Carolina, there are Spanish-speaking people, so I thought it might be a good idea to learn how to speak with them so I can meet twice as many people as I have been able to before and communicate with them.” – Jordyn A.
“Jordyn has a dedicated and positive work ethic. She always reaches out to the teacher when she has questions. She has persevered in completing weekly coursework no matter when or where she has needed to complete it (waiting for the bus, late on a Friday night, …). She is dedicated to her responsibility as a hardworking student. She even attempted to assist the teacher during a recent live Zoom RLC session when the teacher was having technical difficulties, offering a variety of suggestions to try and solve the technical issue!” – Ms. Laura Epting, NCVPS Spanish I Instructor
Jordyn’s Story
I’m a student who’s always tired, but the reason is because I work really hard. Most of the time I work individually, and I’m always sociable with my friends. You will normally always see me doing work.
As an individual, I work really hard to get good grades and to increase my knowledge so I can apply it in life. I try to be kind and compassionate and to not hurt others by gossiping or spreading lies.
Many things have shaped me, for example, my mother, with some of the things she deals with. Those things have shaped me into a more matured person. My mindset, the people I talk to and spend quality time with have also made me the person I am. I greatly appreciate these people because they made me the character I am today.
In my opinion, what makes me me are the things and people around me. I think what makes me an individual is the personality I obtain and the people that influence and surround me.
Online Experience
I have only taken an online Spanish course, but I am pleased with how the course was set up. For me, it was hard to understand at first, but I got the hang of it after a while, and it got easier and easier to understand. People say language courses in general can get very hard and confusing, and it has been. It is the first online course that I have taken, but it has challenged me as a student and as a person.
It increased my knowledge of Spanish, while at the same time helped improve my time management. It helped me do homework more on time and increased my awareness with my family. It helped me become more independent and disciplined.
Personally, what has been the biggest surprise while taking this course was how much time it would take away. I was always saying I had time to do activities but now, after taking the course, I can’t say that as often as I used to, and to be honest with you and myself, I’m happy it’s that way. It makes me feel like I’m doing things and that I’m learning something new and that I’m being more productive.
Some advice I have is take your time on learning things. If you don’t understand something, go ask the instructor! Don’t continue going without fully understanding what you’re learning. Make sure you have a quiet area to work with. Some more advice is believe you can do it! If you don’t believe in yourself that you can do the course, boost yourself up and believe that you can do anything you set your mind to!
Life Outside of School
In the free time I get, I love doing art club on Thursdays, using electronics, playing with my dog and hanging out with family and friends.
My favorite book at the moment is called Rules for Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall. I love this certain book because it was a very big one with a super good storyline. My favorite song is “Flowers and Chocolate” by Eyedress. Even though I don’t really like watching movies, my go-to genre is horror and Christmas. Some shows I loved were Stranger Things, The Glory, My Name, The Night Agent, and lastly, Where The Crawdads Sing.
I enjoy horseback riding. I rode a very big pony named Biscuit, and he was a very stubborn horse, and even though he wasn’t my horse, I really liked him. I like looking at out-dated things. I think that some things you can find that are old fashioned and out of date are really cool and interesting to observe.
Goals & Future Plans
A goal I had this semester was to get a passing grade and completely understand what was being taught and asked of me. I will do the best I can to try to succeed in this goal. I try not to make hard goals for myself and neither should you.
My future plans/goals are to get a good-paying job somewhere in the medical field like an anesthesiologist. Another job is somewhere in the investigative field like a detective or investigator. Some goals I have set for me at the moment is to understand what’s being taught by my teachers and to not let myself fall down, and if I do fall down, I’ll get back up and continue going. I will take about whatever it takes to reach these because to me, this is what I’m living for and going after.
Personal Notes
My family and I have traveled to lots of other places, mostly when I was about 2 years of age and younger. Some interests I have are about how some things happen and how things were solved. Not really trying to be specific, but for example, crime scenes. Older and outdated things also tend to interest me and the stories my parents tell are further interesting because I love listening to what they have done and hearing their experiences about things.
Some of my favorite foods are ice cream, chocolate, and sushi.
I can not live without my mom, my dad, blankets, food & my best friends!
