Super Student Kalani M.Taking an online class advanced my education by having more flexibility with completing assignments, talking to teachers, and learning more about online classes. I loved taking this online class because it was interesting to expand my knowledge on journalism and express myself through writing. I love writing so this was a great opportunity to learn more about it.” – Kalani M.

“Kalani is a very dedicated student.  She is very responsible.  She completes all assignments and makes a great effort for each to be of excellent quality.  She communicates with me if she has any concerns or needs a little extra time for any reason. She is always courteous and respectful.” – Nancy Hooper, NCVPS Journalism Instructor

Kalani’s Story

My name is Kalani Mogelefsky, and I’m currently a freshman (9th grade) in high school.  I am a hardworking student and individual. Ever since middle school I have strived for excellence in academics (getting all A’s), and I accomplished that from hard work. I’m the type of person who never gives up, especially if it’s a hard challenge. I know that I can take on any challenge and be successful. I’m also the type of person who loves to learn and explore new topics.

Online Experience

Actually, the class I’m taking right now, which is Journalism, was supposed to be an in-person class, but it became an online class since there was no teacher. For me, it’s a pleasant surprise for how easy this class was. I was expecting it to be harder.

My advice to other online students is to work hard, ask for help when needed, and to open your mind to something new. Online classes can be fun! Plus, if you ask for help on assignments then you’ll be able to understand what you’re learning and how to apply it to future assignments.

Life Outside of School

I am in chorus and theater as clubs at my school, and I like to play pickleball, read, write, watch TV shows, and hang out with friends/family.

I absolutely LOVE to sing and write. I have loved singing and writing ever since I was 5 years old.

My favorite snack is chips, and I can’t live without gummy bears. They are absolutely delicious!

Goals & Future Plans

My goal this semester was to get an A in this class and all of my other classes. I have completed all of my assignments, asked my teachers for help when needed, continued to work hard, and not give up.

My future plans are to go to college and become a therapist. First, I will work very hard to get good grades and have good extracurriculars in school. Secondly, I will ask my teachers for letters of recommendations and talk to my counselor about looking at colleges. Lastly, I will apply to at least 5-10 colleges so hopefully I will get into a few of them so I have options to choose from.

Personal Notes

In middle school and sometimes during this year, I have struggled with putting my mental health first rather than getting all A’s. Sometimes it’s hard because I put so much pressure on myself to do well but I know that I’m doing the best that I can. I have worked hard and that’s good enough. I’m working to improve my mental health and also balance it between getting all A’s. I know that in the end, everything will work out just fine.

Getting all A’s was one of my best accomplishments because it taught me how to be disciplined and determined. That’s the life lesson I took out of it and will use for the rest of my life.
