Change in Process

NCVirtual recognized an opportunity to provide more consistent support to school districts throughout the state in our OCS Program.  Previously, schools registered for individual sections, presenting a possible lack of consistency district-wide.

In Spring 2022, we piloted a program that allowed students in the same district to be enrolled in a “district section.” After hearing positive feedback and increasing interest in this format, we have begun to offer it statewide.

Benefits

  • Allows for a combination of schools within a district to enroll in district sections.
  • District sections are specifically designed to serve district needs with a dedicated team of NCVirtual teachers.
  • The format allows for NCVirtual to develop strong partnerships with EC personnel throughout the district and, work within the specific district calendar and provide alignment of OCS instruction throughout the district by providing additional PLC opportunities and support.
  • District sections will remain consistent with the NCVirtual co-teaching model that requires an EC licensed teacher at each f2f school and a content licensed NCVirtual teacher.
  • Clearer processes for monitoring student success across the district.

Next Steps

  1. Designate a district representative who will be in charge of sharing the OCS District Section spreadsheet with their school contacts. We ask that this be completed by school contacts (and share back with our team) by July 22nd to ensure that we can properly create district sections.  The district representative will send to NCVirtual when complete.
  2. We will notify the district representative once district sections are created.  Once complete, schools will be able to use our registration system to enroll individual students.  For schools not familiar with NCVirtual Registration, we can offer a webinar session for all staff in addition to our NCVirtual lunch help sessions.  If any students enroll after July 22nd, the school contact will simply enroll using the registration process.
  3. Once enrolled, our NCVirtual staff teaching staff will set up a time to discuss with the face-to-face OCS teacher how to get started, student needs, and learning goals.
