Samuel G Super Student“Taking an online course has challenged me to manage my time properly and gives me a sense of independence because everything from finishing assignments to using the given resources was up to me. Taking an online course also allows me to understand my own way of learning which will allow me to better understand material. The online course I took also helped me realize that I won’t always grasp the concept on the first try. This course has also helped me procrastinate less than I would have.” – Samuel G.

“Samuel is a breath of fresh air! He is always eager to learn and demonstrate his learning in pursuit of his second language acquisition skills. He responds to teacher feedback and resubmits work to the best of his ability. Samuel is a pleasure to teach!” – NCVPS Spanish 3 Honors Instructor, Susan Piner

Samuel’s Story

My name is Samuel. I am a junior in high school and I live in Charlotte, North Carolina. Throughout my lifetime, my parents and family have taught and prepped me to be a person that preserves through circumstances that seem unbearable, but they’ve also taught me how to live in the moment and recognize the good that happens in my life. Having strong courage and resilience with an outgoing and understanding attitude make me who I am today because that has brought me well through good and bad times.

Online Experience

The reason I took NCVPS was the personal journey to look for something new and getting out of an environment that wasn’t the best for me. I wanted to get a similar online experience as I would get for college. So far, I have taken the NCVPS Honors Spanish 3 Course.

What surprised me about the course was the early May end-time. I also was surprised about how flexible the professors allow me to be. My advice to other online students is to stay on top of their work and ask questions to your professors!

Life Outside of School

In my free time, I am a Co-President of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Youth Council, I participate in JROTC, and I play sports more than half of the year (baseball and swim). I often workout and stay active outside and I spend a lot of time with my family. I also do a lot of community service and outreach with my church.

My favorite movie is Just Mercy because it highlights the hard work of what it takes to be a lawyer. This movie shows many messages of working in diverse communities and opening up to knowing people you can trust.

One item I cannot live without is a pen! There is always something to be written down, thoughts, plans, dreams! And, my favorite snack is toast and cream cheese!

Goals & Future Plans

One goal I had this semester was to run a nice campaign for Student Body President. I took measures by starting early, having a plan, and gathering a team.

My future plans are to successfully enter the United States Navy and complete college to become an attorney, soon going into practice and eventually becoming an attorney general. Steps I will take to achieve that are to stay on track and don’t let anyone or anything distract me from staying on a straight path to my dreams. I also have to have great networking skills.

Fun Facts

  • I have been to the Mall Of America in Minnesota!
  • I have traveled to 13 states in 5 years, each state about twice!
  • I absolutely enjoy going to Carowinds!

Sample of Samuel’s Work
