NCVirtual Quick Reference Guide

The North Carolina Virtual Public School has worked with the NCAA to get clarification on how to better help students who are trying to get clearance. The NCAA understands that NCVPS does not provide report cards or transcripts. Those will come from the student’s local school.

We have two processes that will help students.

High School Transcripts

Document NCVPS courses on the student transcripts like this:

MATH I – NCVPS

Or show the course ID to show the semester:

MATHIsec04spr14 – NCVPS

This example helps the NCAA see what semester the student took the course and what institution the student took the course with.

By doing this, it will help the NCAA to know this was an online class with NCVPS and that we do not award the grades. Please make sure you designate NCVPS instead of ONLINE CLASS. This would be the wrong distinction: MATH I – Online

NCAA Eligibility Center Portal

NCVPS is listed in the Eligibility Central. Search for “North Carolina Virtual Pub Sch” to identify us for the courses you take with us.

Note: Not identifying how the course is completed on official transcripts will result in additional questions or tasks in a student’s registration at the Eligibility Center to clarify how the course was completed.

NCAA Suggestion For Non-public Schools

The North Carolina Virtual Public School has been working with NCAA to get clarification on how to better help students who are trying to get clearance. The NCAA understands that NCVPS doesn’t award the grade as we are not degree-granting and that the NC public school awards the grades.

We have one solution to share out with schools systems. It has been suggested that schools document the classes on the transcripts as such:

MATH I – NCVPS

Or show the course ID to show the semester:

math1sec04spr11 – NCVPS

This example helps them to see what semester etc. this course was taken when they are doing their evaluation, as well.

By doing this, it will help the NCAA to know this was an online class with NCVPS and that we do not award the grades. Please make sure you designate NCVPS instead of ONLINE CLASS. This would be the wrong distinction: MATH I – Online

Note: Not identifying how the course is completed on official transcripts will result in additional questions or tasks in a student’s registration at the Eligibility Center to clarify how the course was completed.

NOTE: A student that is home schooled and completes NCVPS courses will need to have the following for NCAA:

• the course listed on their home school transcript (with the NCVPS).

• fill out the core course worksheets for each NCVPS course completed.
