Building Your Partnership with NCVPS

NCVPS wants to build on our partnership with public, home, and private schools. Since 2007, schools have enrolled with NCVPS because of our quality online courses and great flexibility. Our courses have been nationally recognized by Quality Matters, the global organization leading quality assurance in online teaching and learning, and schools have the option to enroll students into our summer, Early Start, Standard Start, or in a flex enrollment program.

Certified North Carolina teachers help develop and teach our courses, and they have successfully completed our rigorous Teacher-in-Training program for online instruction. Students can expect personal attention and quality feedback.

However, we offer much more to school than our high-quality courses and flexibility. Those features are standard. Click through the tabs below to see how we are helping private schools and students across the state.

Supporting Private Schools

NCVPS courses are teacher-driven, and we have the best-prepared online teachers in the nation. Here are our NCVPS teacher credentials:

Number of Teachers: 750+
Average Number of Years Teaching: 16
Average Number of Years Teaching Online: 7
Percentage with a Master’s Degree or Higher: 67%
Percentage with National Board Certification: 69%
Percentage with College Board Advanced Placement Certification: 41%

Before instructors can teach for NCVPS, they must complete our extensive and comprehensive Teacher-in-Training program, a 15-week professional learning experience that consists of coursework via Canvas and a live Practicum (student-teaching experience).

All NCVPS courses are aligned to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Our courses are designed by expert teams of North Carolina teachers and online course design specialists. We have a course review process and timeline that is continuously refined and improved for quality and effectiveness. As courses are reviewed, results are summarized and action plans for courses are identified. NCVPS has the most courses approved by Quality Matters of any school, K-20, in the nation. Quality Matters is the industry standard for certifying online courses for quality.

NCVPS can supplement your catalog with over 135 online courses. This provides increased opportunities for your students. Last year, more than 700 schools enrolled over 50,000 students in our courses. Students can take courses they need or courses based on their interests.

Our program includes standard, honors, and AP courses. North Carolina teachers from across the state have helped us develop courses for every student at every level.

Our NCVPS Edvantage Tutoring Program offers virtual statewide wraparound support to middle and high school students in high-needs NC public and private schools, as well as homeschool coalitions. Tutoring is available and offered via a personalized partnership with school leadership to best meet the needs of selected students each semester.

The NCVPS Peer Tutoring Center has been helping students with both content-specific help, motivation, and time management. Peer Tutors and Virtual Buddies are our own teacher-recommended students who have a strong working knowledge of the courses they tutor.

Example: A school wants to expand its course catalog by offering multiple world languages or Advanced Placement courses through NCVPS.

Each year, schools across the state lose teachers unexpectedly. Finding a qualified replacement can often be difficult. Many districts and schools turn to NCVPS for a solution. Each year, schools enroll entire sections into an NCVPS course after losing a teacher. Contact us when that happens, and we will try to group your students with one or two NCVPS teachers.

Example: A school is unable to replace or hire, either permanently or temporarily, a science teacher and elects to enroll high school students in NCVPS science courses. NCVPS will endeavor to place the students with the same instructor for continuity and ease of communication.

Learning does not have to stop in the summer! If you want to start a summer school program or supplement your current one, then use your state’s virtual school’s summer program.

Our summer session is a fast-paced program. An entire 18-week course is taught in just 6 weeks. Students will spend about 4 hours a day working on a course. Students can spread out their work throughout the day. It doesn’t have to be in one sitting. Students can work in their NCVPS courses any time during the day or night, 24/7. They just need to pay close attention to the due dates for their assignments, tests, and quizzes.

Schools may enroll whole classes with NCVPS. Whether this enrollment is part of a catalog expansion to provide students with additional course options or due to unexpected teacher loss, NCVPS readily supports whole class enrollments. NCVPS endeavors to place students with the same instructor whenever possible, fostering a sense of familiarity and consistency that can enhance the learning experience. This approach not only helps students stay on track academically but also promotes a supportive learning environment where students can thrive.

Example: A K-8 school wishes to offer NC Math 1 or NC Math 2 to advanced 7th and 8th-grade students as part of their standard curriculum so that students will earn a high school credit.

As with the Cohort Enrollments, NCVPS assists with individual student needs by offering our extensive course catalog as flexible options to meet students’ unique academic requirements and personal goals. Students facing diverse situations, such as schedule conflicts, credit recovery, or the pursuit of advanced coursework beyond what the school may offer, can benefit from NCVPS’s comprehensive offerings. Whether a student seeks to delve into a niche subject not available at their school or requires additional support due to a sudden change in circumstances, NCVPS provides a solution.

Example: A transfer student needs to take an extra course outside of the school day to meet the private school’s graduation requirements.

A student has a unique interest and wishes to take an NCVPS course for enrichment.
