NC Virtual is pleased to announce its 2020 Teacher of the Year: Alexa Haselhorst! Please join us in celebrating this award with her.
Alexa is one of our French instructors and a World Language Instructional Leader. She has also worked on our curriculum development and revision teams for French courses.
We would also like to celebrate our other two finalists, Kim Loudermilk (Success 101) and Kristen Thomas (OCS English). NCVPS selects one teacher from a group of three finalists to represent the school as its Teacher of the Year. All the finalists exemplified the highest degree in their commitment to student success, knowledge and skills as professional educators, and dedication to the NC Virtual online program.
While it is always very difficult to determine one winner each year among so many excellent teachers, Alexa stands out as a strong advocate for her students and role model for her peers. She has a passion for teaching and strives for a variety of ways in which to reach students. Her methodical drive to achieve excellence was duly noted throughout the selection process. We are certain that Alexa will serve as an effective ambassador for NC Virtual as she is already involved in leadership roles within the world language department, and she is a strong advocate for online learning in various forums. She is focused, determined, dedicated and passionate!
The NC Virtual selection process for the Teacher of the Year program is divided into four phases beginning with the call for nominations. Next, nominees participate in a blind selection process that starts with answering a series of initial questions on instructional philosophy and student-centered instruction. The selection committee then narrows the field to three finalists who complete a video presentation and a portfolio, which showcases examples of their approach to teaching and their beliefs about instruction. The selection committee interviews the top three finalists before the final selection is made.
